Village Events
Buy From The Blind sales were annual events in the village hall.
Someone would go round the village every month selling vouchers valued at 3p, a shilling and half-a-crown which could be saved up and exchanged at the next sale for handmade baskets and brushes.
Formal event c1949
Garden Party c1949
A Garden Party held at Everingham Vicarage – noticeable for the complete absence of any Roman Catholics. The RC priest at the time was very strict about his flock mixing with Anglicans.
Christmas Party c1952
1959 Lady Anne’s 21st birthday was celebrated with a sports day on the then playing field [entrance between Rose Cottage and Strawberry Cottage] and a dinner at The Hall, which was then a Country Club.
Lady Anne wasn’t living in the village at the time but, as The Duke of Norfolk’s eldest daughter, was set to inherit the estate on his death.
This photo shows Lady Anne, helped by Mr Arnold Storm, presenting the prizes in the 5s and Under race:-
1st Jilly Wilkinson
2nd Graham Wilkinson
3rd Colette Kress
Also ran Valerie Wilkinson
Village Walk
We held the first New Year’s Day walk in 2007 and have continued most years with an unavoidable break for Covid. Everyone’s welcome and the walk ends with hot drinks and biscuits at the village hall.
